If you purchased a membership in the Ancestry® app (through the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Amazon), you'll need to cancel your membership through Apple, Google Play, or Amazon.
After canceling, check the email address associated with your Ancestry account for a cancellation confirmation.
Canceling a membership or free trial
Go to Account settings
In Account settings, go to the Membership section > select Cancel membership or Cancel free trial > follow the steps until you see confirmation that you've canceled.
If there's no Cancel membership link on your Account settings page, try signing out, then signing back in. If that doesn’t work, contact us to find the account you’re being billed on.
Pausing and refunds
To
delay your renewal for up to two months, after selecting the
Cancel membership link, select
Pause Membership >
Continue >
1 month or
2 months >
Pause.
Unless you’re within the refund window (see "
2. Subscription Cancellations and Refunds" in
Ancestry Renewal and Cancellation Terms), your membership will end at the end of its current term. You can find the
Renews on date on your
Account settings page.
Troubleshooting
Preventing automatic renewal
Except for gift memberships, all memberships renew automatically unless they're canceled. If you cancel during the refund period, your membership will end immediately and will not renew. If you cancel outside of the refund period, your membership will end at the end of your current period and will not renew.
Billed after canceling
If you've been billed for a membership after canceling your membership, you likely have a duplicate Ancestry account. Please contact us so we can find the other account for you.
Refunds
Check out our refund policy.
Blank page when trying to cancel
If you see a blank page when trying to cancel, disable your ad blocker or cancel using an incognito tab or window in Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
Canceling a free trial
Follow the steps above to cancel your free trial. If you're on a free trial and you don't want to continue with a paid membership, cancel your free trial to avoid being billed.
What happens after cancellation
Once your membership is canceled, you'll still have an account with Ancestry® as a registered guest. Registered guest accounts are free and provide you with access to many resources on the site. For more information, see Ancestry® Accounts after Cancellation.
Deleting your account
If you delete your Ancestry® account, all information on your account (including, but not limited to, family trees, records, photos, and DNA results) will be permanently deleted. You can also cancel your membership without deleting your account.
